My Pull-Up Challenge

MovModMot - March 28, 2018

I believe it is important for people to routinely make goals for themselves. These goals should be challenging, but attainable. They can be related to health, finances, relationships, career, and anything else, but you need to striving for something at all times. I decided to make a goal related to fitness that would increase my physical strength while exercising multiple muscles at the same time.

I recently purchased a Perfect Fitness Multi-Gym Doorway Pull Up Bar and Portable Gym System, Sport that you just hang from your doorframe with a gift card I got for Christmas. I decided to do this after hearing Jamie Foxx talking about how he does them every morning on a Tim Ferris podcast. So now that I own one, can do them any time, and have no excuse, how many will I be able to do? My goal is to be able to do 20 by the end of August of this year. I remember being able to do like 20 when I was like 10 years old. I could do about 15 in my prime in my twenties. I haven't done them in a while, so I am a bit rusty, but we'll see what happens.

Pull-ups are a compound exercise that work multiple muscles at the same time giving you more bang for your buck. They work your lats, triceps, biceps, abs and deltoids. They are quite difficult and that is why I decided to give myself the challenge. I am just going to keep track of the set with the highest reps for the week.

Here are my numbers so far:

  • Week 1: 5
  • Week 2: 8
  • Week 3: 10
  • Week 4: 13
  • Week 5: 15
  • Week 6: 20

UPDATE: Well, that was interesting. It only took me 6 weeks to get to 20 pull-ups. I guess I will bump up the challenge to 30.
