The 4-Hour Work Week

Never check your email again, outsource your daily tasks, refuse customers, and increase your revenue. Sounds crazy, but Tim Ferris created a book that helps you do all of that.

Yes, I know I am late to party, but at least I am here. I just read The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich and now it is time for me to just sit here and think about how worthless I am for not having an e-Commerce business that is generating $1k a day. For real though, tons of great information in this best seller by Tim Ferris. He is the king of getting business sh*t done efficiently and spending the rest of his doing exactly what he wants. Suggesting outsourcing most of your tedious time-suck work to virtual assistants, reducing the amount of times you check your e-mail to maybe once a week, and literally relating the 80/20 Rule to everything, this guy doesn't mess around. For me, his explanation of how much of a waste of time meetings can be really resonated. Or the fact that people just do things that make themselves feel busier is spot on. e.g. Check emails, make extra calls, schedule meetings. Another great point was that "doing unrealistic things is easier than doing the realistic things." This is an awesome thought; when everyone is trying to do the same thing, no one can do it. Be bold. Be different. And don't let anybody tell you can't or shouldn't. Damn. That is motivating. Thanks Tim.

The 80/20 Rule is brought up numerous times in the book. He suggests evaluating all parts of your life with this Rule. What 20% of things cause you 80% of your stress or unhappiness? What 20% of your work provides 80% of your productivity? What 20% of your customers need 80% of your customer service's attention? His advice: Get rid of them. Focus your energy on the 20% that is providing the 80% of your business. If you haven't read the book, I suggest you do. Books like this have a tendency to have one or two things stick with you. For me, 80/20 Rule. Use it to evaluate everything!
